The lazy-girl way to build a content calendar that works

Oct 12, 2025

Let me guess:
You’ve downloaded 47 content calendar templates… and used none of them.

Same.

If content planning makes you want to cry into your hot chocolate, I want you to know you’re not alone—and you’re not doing it wrong. The problem isn’t you. It’s the pressure-packed, corporate-style content advice floating around that doesn’t work for women like us—women who are building businesses and raising kids, juggling clients, remembering to feed the cat, and trying to have a life in between.

What you need is something that works with your life—not against it. Something simple, sustainable, and honestly… a little bit lazy (in the best way possible).

Let’s talk about how to create a content calendar that actually feels good.

Why Most Content Calendars Don’t Work for Women Like Us

I once tried to follow this “pro-level” content calendar from a guru with 300K followers. You know the kind—post every day, follow a strict theme schedule, use 30 hashtags, repurpose to YouTube and TikTok on Tuesdays, or else.

It lasted exactly one week. By Friday, I was burnt out and behind on everything else in my life. And worst of all? My content didn’t even perform better—it just felt forced.

If you’re someone who’s managing a household, a business, and a brain that doesn’t love strict systems, I promise: it’s not you. That style just doesn’t fit.

You don’t need a 30-day master calendar. You need something softer. More flexible. And most importantly—something you’ll actually use.

The Lazy-Girl Philosophy (aka: realistic and kind)

Let’s redefine “lazy,” shall we?

Lazy isn’t careless—it’s efficient, intentional, and gentle. It means choosing what works with your energy and schedule instead of pushing through someone else’s formula.

Here’s the vibe:

  • You don’t need to post every day.
  • Batching is your best friend.
  • Your content can flow with your seasons (both life and nature).
  • You can build a rhythm that gives more than it takes.

And if you’re someone who journals, crafts, or gardens—guess what? You’re already a planner by nature. You just plan in ways that feel tactile and heart-centred. That counts.

Christene’s Cozy Calendar Setup

Here’s the system I use myself and recommend to my clients:

📌 Choose 1 platform to focus on
📌 Pick 3 content pillars (topics you always come back to)
📌 Plan 4 types of posts per month:

  • Week 1: Behind-the-scenes (life, biz, messy middle moments)
  • Week 2: Value tip (something helpful, practical, encouraging)
  • Week 3: Story or heart post (why you do what you do)
  • Week 4: Soft offer or gentle invite (lead magnet, free call, etc.)

That’s it. 4 posts per month. One per week. No burnout.

💡 Insider Tip from Christene: I batch content twice a month during my “Cocoa & Content” afternoons—hot chocolate, period drama on in the background, comfy pants on. It’s peaceful and productive.

You can use tools like Trello, Notion, or even sticky notes. I’ve even had clients build their calendars in junk journals—and I am 100% here for that.

How to Make Your Calendar Work For You

Here’s how to give your calendar staying power:

  • Create a “content drawer” – a list of ideas you can pull from anytime
  • Keep a “love folder” of posts you enjoyed (screenshots, notes, etc.)
  • Use your journal or voice memos to brainstorm on the go
  • Let go of perfection – the goal is presence, not polish

If you miss a week? Nothing breaks. You simply show back up when you can—with kindness toward yourself.

Try This This Week

Want to try this cozy method without overhauling your whole life?

✅ Pick one platform
✅ Choose 3 topics you always talk about
✅ Batch 4 pieces of content (one for each of the next 4 weeks)
✅ Schedule them—or just write them and keep them handy
✅ Reward yourself with something lovely (tea, a walk, or a cheeky scroll)

Your calendar is here to serve you—not stress you out.

Content Doesn’t Have to Feel Like Homework

You’re not lazy. You’re living a very full life.
You’re also a business owner who deserves peace, clarity, and ease in the way you show up online.

This “lazy-girl” calendar isn’t about cutting corners—it’s about cutting stress.

And if you want help putting this kind of system in place for your business…
